Worship at Bellerose

God has blessed our ministry at Bellerose with a great worship team led by Steve Tice and several other talented musicians.  The team seeks to lead the congregation in true worship of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  We sing contemporary praise and worship music as well as the occasional up tempo hymn.  Come and sing along!

One of the praise songs we sing is "Nothing Without You".   Our prayer is that this song will minister to you.  Following is a devotional that Steve has written to go along with the song.

Nothing Without You

JOHN 15:1 "I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.
JOHN 15:2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
JOHN 15:3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.
JOHN 15:4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine.
Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
JOHN 15:5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
JOHN 15:6 If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.
JOHN 15:7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.
JOHN 15:8 This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

Questions

  1. What degrees of fruit bearing do you see in this passage? (vs. 2, 5)
  2. What does fruit look like?  How would you know if a person is bearing fruit?
  3. What does verse 5 say we can do apart from Him?  What do you think that means?  Do you think that there are incorrect conclusions that could be drawn from this verse?  What is the condition for bearing fruit?  (vs. 4)  In practical terms, how do we do this?
